It was great to see so many kids testing themselves out at the Lifetime UTR tournament held today. We encourage the kids to seek outside competition as much as possible. Winning tennis matches, dealing with emotions, and learning how to spot weaknesses and construct points can be almost as important as proper stroke mechanics. These are learned skills. We have set up our kids in some round robin UTR tournaments with their teammates, but that’s not enough. UTR (universal tennis rating) is not perfect, but with a large data set is pretty darn accurate, in my opinion. It is something we use to help us evaluate players.
Regarding Tuesday’s JV tournament: Below is our tentative lineup, we are awaiting word about the extra girls doubles slot but expect it will be approved. We plan to leave at 7:15. I will be dropping the kids off at the three other sites: Atascocita HS, Humble HS, and Summer Creek HS. There are some high quality tennis schools in this tournament. It will be tougher than the last one, where we pretty much dominated. If parents want to pick their kids up when they’re finished, they must fill out the travel release form located here and give it or text it to me (281-455-8040). Players will be playing at these sites:
Atascocita: ABD and AGD Humble: BGD and B MXD Summer Creek: AMXD, BBS, and AGS Kingwood: ABS, BBD, BGS
Please make sure to wear uniform and bring plenty of water and something to eat. The kids playing at KHS can show up later, by 8:15.
